We had so much unusable space in our backyard because of the hill slope, and the back of our house is not beautiful by any stretch of the mind. It's actually quite ugly with a botched window job (previous owner/flipper) and a large mass of electrical and utility boxes/lines all coming together right outside our patio door. I want to enjoy sitting in my backyard on nice days, but am very limited in space and desire. The area that would be considered our "deck" was a 10×10 concrete slab. Not safe for our child with no railing protecting the drop-off to our very sloped yard on all sides.
Chet, Shane, and Russ with CA Carpentry started work on our mess and I cannot write enough about the finished product. Not only did they work around that nasty slab (so much $$$ to remove!), and that mess of utility connections on the house, but they completely changed the look of our entire backyard with the gorgeous wood deck they crafted. Not build, crafted. You don't see work like this in construction these days. I had a picture in my mind, and these guys' work absolutely exceeded it.
The quality of work, speed, communication, and how me and my husband feel after is life changing. Now, instead of my tiny children and elderly family having to walk out onto steps with no hand-hold, they can walk straight out. Our useable space was tripled, and the beauty of the deck has reignited my desire to decorate, host in, and enjoy my back yard again. Also, my kids will not fall off of the sides any longer because we have exquisite, child-safe, metal bar railings in all of the important places! Seriously, craftsmanship, not just constructed. They are artists and have great pride in what they do, and now so do I. I cannot wait to sit out ther and just enjoy the new look and feel. It's currently dumping our largest snow load of the year on the first day I can walk on it. But it's, Colorado, so I just have to wait a couple days.

We bought a house on a golf course with a beautiful view. The builder truncated the deck after the city required a certain setback from the golf course. With the deck dramatically reduced in size, there was no backyard access except from the walkout basement. We tried to get a deck extension approved a couple of times, with our landscaper and with another deck company with no success. We learned about the quality work, read testimonials and saw pictures of stunningly beautiful decks built by CA Carpentry. We were reenergized to try one last time. We contacted the owner, Chet Anderson. He met with us to review our desires and talk about our past challenges. He worked with the city and was able to get conditional approval, pending HOA approval. Chet drew up a design based on our conversations and we submitted them to the HOA. The design was approved and the city gave us the approval for the new deck.
We had done a lot of research and really wanted to go with a Brazilian hardwood. Chet talked about the positives and negatives of each option available to us, including costs. He was very thoughtful in presenting his points and let us make the decision. His experience was invaluable to finalizing our options and making a decision. It was crucial that the design would work with the existing landscaping. We went with a simple, yet elegant design that would maximize our space and blend in as if it was planned as part of our recently completed backyard landscape.
The day the demolition of the old deck began, Chet brought over the team and introduced them to us. Shane and Russ are experienced carpenters and were both friendly and professional. They showed up as planned, did high quality work and involved both Chet and us when necessary to discuss the inevitable challenges that arise with any project of this type. Chet ensured they were able to match the stone of the house, as well as the flagstone in the existing hardscape for the post bases. I really appreciated the fact that, each day, they cleaned up the work area, in case we were going to use the backyard.
During construction, Chet came to us with several ideas to improve the look of the deck - just little things here and there. They were completely our option. They were also included in the cost. He takes pride in the quality as well as the deck's aesthetics. These ideas occurred after construction began and increased the beauty of the deck. The deck looks fantastic. The carpentry is exquisite, with an attention to detail that seems to be from a forgotten age. CA Carpentry definitely takes pride in their work and build a very high quality product at a reasonable cost. I highly recommend CA Carpentry for any deck, patio or backyard structure project you may have. If I ever have a need for any such work in the future, I will definitely use them.
